Project Name: Fizzy Blast

Software Used: Adobe Illustrator

Fizzy blast is a project that I undertook for a personal as opposed to doing it for work or as part of my degree.

I set myself the task of creating the logo and packaging design for a brand new fizzy soft drink. I started by creating a mood board (as seen below) for the colour pallete and design. I imagined the drink to have a sharp citrus flavouring and hence chose colours generally associated with fruits. In particular, the yellow seemed a suitable core colour as it is coupled with such fruits as lemons, grapefruits, etc.

My next task was to consider the name for this new brand. My initial thinking was to focus on the ‘coldness’ of a refreshing soft drink on a hot day. Examples I came up with included; Frozen Co(o)ld, Cold squared, and Ice Chilled. For a variety of reasons I didn’t like my ideas as I felt they were too obvious and corny. However they were useful as a starting point for other ideas. ‘Ice Chilled’ evolved into ‘Chilled Blast’ as blast seemed more dynamic in giving refreshment. I also decided to try out non-cold terms and thought about ‘Fizz King’ (as it tells the potential that the product is fizzy and ‘top class’). I felt that these were improvements but not didn’t quite the spot. Finally I alighted on a mixture of the two versions which was ‘Fizzy Blast’ (i.e. a fizzy drink that blasts you away)

The logo went through a number of iterations. The pallette used three main colours – yellow, red and green. The main image is a yellow lemon with a fuse – obviously tying into the drink’s name. The background for the packaging is a tropical leaf envoking the idea of it being fresh and exotic.

I show below the final version. If I was to return to this project, I would re-look at the main image as I feel that the concept is strong but perhaps the fuse could be highlighted more.
