Project Name: Magnified Insects
Software Used: NotePad++
This was a client led project which I completed in my final year. I was the team leader for a team of three. Our project was to design a web based app for children to view magnified insects from a collection at Portsmouth Museum. As the team leader I was responsible for project management and assigning tasks to team members. My primary role in the final product was the programming of the web based app.
We work collectively on the design of the app, sharing our development with the client as we went along. As team leader, I was the primary contact with the client and I led the project team meetings. The development of the site and all meetings, due to Covid, were virtual. Here are examples of the designs as we developed them.
Once the designs were signed off by the client, we gathered the necessary photos of the insects to build the site.
The site was developed using JavaScript and HTML. The artwork was loaded on a sprite sheet, which was then projected onto the canvas. The functionality of the canvas was programmed within JarvaScript. Examples of this coding can be seen to left, with a Video of the end product aswell a Gif of the full code to the side of it.
The Museum was delighted with the work and provided the following reference:
“ I was very impressed with the professionalism of this team. They each had a defined role, really playing to their strengths. The team researched their target audience and thought how visitors with partial sight would view the activity. The end product looks lovely – beautifully produced and looks simple to use. It also reflects the branding on the Cumberland House Natural History Museum website.
This is an imaginative interpretation of the brief as it puts each insect into context. ”
